Illustration, Book Design, and Creative Storytelling
Blue Illusory is a 300+ page supernatural mystery novel inspired by Filipino culture and mythology, initially created for the De La Salle Scholars Program senior capstone Independent Study Project.
Besides the outlining and writing of the novel itself, the project involved the completion of 16 miniature chapter illustrations, a book cover design, and supplementary concept art intended to provide visual interest and enhance storytelling elements. Completion involved frequent learning from an experienced literary mentor; careful time and project management; and a presentation describing the process and final deliverables.
Blue Illusory is currently an ongoing project that, with a few more revisions and rewrites, may hopefully one day see the shelves!
Character design
On Procreate, I created a 2-page illustration depicting character appearances to clarify textual descriptions.
Details within the illustration provide clues about motivations and dynamics. For one, veils, glasses, or foreground objects obscuring facial features imply deception.

I was inspired by the chapter icon art in Harry Potter to create similar miniature illustrations for different plot beats within Blue Illusory. Each chapter in the text is accompanied by a relevant object, red herring, or clue that furthers the mystery or foreshadows future developments, drawn on Procreate.
When I finished my manuscript for Blue Illusory, I used the document's paper dimensions and page count to generate a PDF book cover template on Amazon KDP, which I then referenced to design a cover of appropriate size on Procreate.
The intricate and delicate patterns of Victorian-era book designs influenced the line drawings of vines and flowers decorating the cover. The design suggests themes of elegance and secrecy that populate the interior pages.

Character design
For the primary logo of the website, I utilized the existing visual motifs of the high school (e.g. the crest and the serif font) to provide visual cohesion between the organization and the broader institution, appealing to students' senses of ethos and creating an authentic brand image. Adobe Express and Procreate served as tools for the logo and its variation.
I designed the additional "Six Burning Questions" logo for a video interview series imitating the YouTube show Hot Ones. Using Procreate, I modified the Futura font to mimic neon lettering and the existing Hot Ones logo, seeking to convey energy through type.
